Uglies and Pretties

I've found my new favorite sci-fi YA series. Scott Westerfeld's dytopian future of Uglies and Pretties is an intriguing world where everyone is made beautiful at sixteen, and anyone normal is considered ugly. So what happens when a group tries to break free from the system of mind control put in place to suppress the uglier side of human nature? Pick up a copy and find out! The series is a unique hybrid of George Orwell's 1984 and The Devil Wears Prada morphed into an adventure-romance story that kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning.

Now I'm just waiting to get my hands on Specials, the third book in the series. I'm also still waiting for Just One Wish and My Fair Godmother. My local library is SLOW to get new acquisitions into circulation. Oh well, if I had them all at once, I wouldn't get anything else done except read and I have a lot to do.

These are Addie's favorites! She has read the whole series (and a few of them she has read over and over). I haven't found the time to read them yet. I am saving them for a hot summer day by the pool.

BTW...have you read any of Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider series? Addie is so hooked on these right now.

Nope, I haven't heard of the Alex Rider series until now. I'll have to add those to my list. Thanks for the recommendation!

I read the first book in the Alex Rider series quite a while back when I saw an interview with the author on a Scholastic promotion. I haven't read any of the other books in the series. The first book had a very high-paced plot with an ordinary-boy-becomes-hero protagonist, which always seems appealing! Very Mission Impossible-ish. I agree with you, Jen--Scott Westerfield's series is fantastic. And oddly like watching TLC's "What Not to Wear"....

At least they get them in. I don't think the library here has updated anything other than Harry Potter since the 80's...ok, maybe late 90's.
